Morning All,
For those who don’t already know, I have been accepted to the University of Edinburgh, where I plan to complete a Master of Science (MSc) in International Relations. This one-year program begins in September 2025 and concludes in August 2026. I enter the program with a list of goals, at the top of which is, “be open to whatever comes out of this”.
It’s one month until school begins, and less than a month before I leave Orcas Island. I have called Orcas home for the last 26 years, and with the exception of two non-COVID undergrad years, it has been my only home. I find the prospect of leaving exciting, as I know it will open the door to experiences and opportunities I could not find here. I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a reasonable amount of apprehension, that packing up and moving to Scotland and leaving behind the familiar and comfortable is a huge mistake. Regardless, the die has been cast, the loans have been processed, the visa issued, and housing allocated. I am excited to be going, but, at the moment, there’s not much I can do except sit in agonizing anticipation, imagining all the worst-case outcomes.
Anyway, I plan to update this space weekly over the course of the year, so I can keep friends and family apprised of my status. We’ll see how it goes…
Onward,
Keith
